Shoghagat Apartian Salim

Shoghag salim was born on 29 November 1968 in Aleppo. From an early age, she was immersed in music and culture. She studied at the Armenian Evangelical School in Aleppo and later continued her musical education in the United States at the LA Verne Conservatory, specializing in jazz vocals and performance.

In 1994, she returned to Syria and completed her Bachelor’s degree in music under the supervision of Dr. Reed Gratz. Alongside her artistic career, she devoted herself to music education, nurturing new generations of musicians.

Between 1988 and 1995, she performed extensively across Syria and Armenia, presenting Armenian folk music, jazz standards, and contemporary works in more than 20 cities.

In 1996, she founded the jazz ensemble “Shoghag & Friends”, blending jazz traditions with Armenian musical identity through original compositions and improvisation.

She represented Syrian-Armenian culture at international jazz festivals and major cultural venues, including performances at the Syrian Opera House and the Aleppo Jazz Festival.

Her compositions span jazz works, vocal ensembles, Armenian traditional music, choral works, children’s songs, and major commemorative projects, including a full volume dedicated to the Armenian Genocide of April 24.

In recent years, she has continued her artistic and pedagogical work internationally across Europe and Armenia.
